Desierto
Every year, thousands of Americans descend upon Ensenada to participate in the Baja 1000, a non-stop thousand mile off-road race down the scenic Baja Peninsula. What was once a scrambling free-for-all through the desert has ballooned into a multimillion-dollar corporate showcase where new products are given more coverage than the riders themselves. On a local level, bloody drug wars, gang violence, and the perpetually hot-button issue of immigration have risen in parallel to these developments. "Desierto" is an ongoing photo project examining the complex cultural, political, and environmental network that plays host to these events.
